Exploring a concept in 24 hours: simplifying the user experience for ChatGPT users.
When given the prompt in a design challenge, I immediately focused on enhancing the user experience, particularly for those who rely on these insights from ChatGPT in their daily routines.
Disclaimer: this project was conducted in early 2024 before the widespread usage of GPT4 so this concept may not reflect the current manifestation of ChatGPT available to the public.

Context
A pressing need to prioritize the user experience of ChatGPT
Overall, ChatGPT's development of their LLM and AI has advanced at an unprecedented pace. However, the user experience of their consumer-facing apps has taken a backseat to their business model, resulting in a less-than-optimal user experience.
As an avid user of ChatGPT since its release, I’ve utilized it across various contexts. When tasked with a design exercise to make ChatGPT 3.5 more user-friendly and to enhance how users can leverage the information gained through conversations, I was ready to dive in.

Problem
A growing frustration with the inability to access relevant information
After interviewing primary users of ChatGPT, who use the tool for diverse purposes, and conducting secondary research through online articles, I discovered that a primary point of dissatisfaction stemmed from user’s being unable to save, search, or organize information from conversations they had previously conducted with ChatGPT.
Solution
A dashboard to anticipate user needs
This dashboard prompts users to interact with ChatGPT in a way that aligns with their previous history. It also allows for users to access and organize their information more throughly.
Stay tuned for more details about the process! Coming soon...
Wrapping up
What I learned
Little projects make a big difference. Despite this being a hypothetical exercise, it still forced me to consider ChatGPT’s business model and needs and understand how best to fit them with user needs. Critically thinking about this helped drive complex projects such as this one forward.
Never too late to revisit a quick project. While the majority of this project was completed within 24 hours, I revisited this project months later. I asked an industry professional for feedback and he gave me pain points for me to refine me designs based off of.
Reflecting on the experience
Despite this being a quick project, I learned a lot and was grateful to venture into designing for rapidly evolving technology. Finishing this project gave me the confidence to venture into designing for more projects that utilized the use of AI and understand how best to incorporate it into my work.
